That's how politicians get popular, so hard to cut, but tax has little room for manoever left: The most productive have shown why, as many have gone part time, retired early and dropped small busisness plans. Civil servants have not been effective chasing sophisticated corporate tax avoidance.

Unfunded handouts & spending. The more things change, the more they stay the same with Labour.

Cutting VAT is a start, but "breathing space" is just a temporary fix. When do we see a long-term plan for energy costs that doesn't rely on short-term splurges?

Cutting VAT on electricity bills right out of the gate! That's a massive move for the cost of living crisis. Definitely a bold start to the era. What do we think—is this the right first priority or should he have looked elsewhere? Who's backing this move?
