One of the world's most iconic ancient monuments is entering a new chapter.
After decades of painstaking restoration, visitors to Athens' Parthenon can now see its western facade free of scaffolding
I like this restoration of a world famous icon of western civilization. On the other hand, I don't like that your media business makes propaganda and excuses for islamic terrorism and for hate against Jews. Israel has right to exist, Jews live there for 3000 years already and even Quran says that it rightfully belongs them and not to the Arabs.
We have a perfect Parthenon in the United States. I believe it’s in Nashville. I may be wrong about that but just look it up. It’s the same size. It’s not a shrunk conversion. It’s the same size and it is beautifully done. My only issue with it is they didn’t look for a hill to put it on and it’s on a flat surface of ground and it should be up on a plateau somewhere . I know people that aren’t US citizen so laugh but just check it out. It’s absolutely perfectly done and everything was measured to the exact millimeter. Diana inside was created from a real statue of her and they sized it up. No computer computers were used just a slide rule in a compass.
Even though I’m American, a lot of my family’s background is English. It’s always been a very conflicting thing for me, in that in most ways I’ve really been into it and embrace it. I even drive a MINI Cooper. But wow, from colonial empires all over the world, to amassing artifacts from other countries, to many other things, there sure is a lot of shady stuff in the country’s past.
Desperately slow progress. The Maison Carree in Nimes, France, a Roman temple, was restored to perfection in only five years between 2006 and 2011. Although it was not as large and damaged as the Greek Parthenon, is n example of an efficient similar work. Greeks want to extend the restoration because if they finish quick the works, they lose their jobs on site and the European economic funding to do so.
My great grandfather was one of the first to work on the restoration about 100 years ago. Thank you Al Jazeera.

No mention of the long Ottoman occupation and neglect , they sold the marbles to Elgin.
The only sculptures left in good nick is the ones in London.
When is the Mona Lisa going back to Italy, Napoleon stole it and it's in Paris .
I don't get what they're talking about, there's scaffolding clearing visible all over the building face they show at 0:07 - it's not "free of scaffolding" at all... maybe they mean something like "there's a bit less scaffolding now"?
"The iconic Parthenon was constructed incredibly fast for its time, taking only 9 years for the main structure (447–438 BC) and 6 additional years for its masterful sculptures (completed in 432 BC)." Well done to Greece for only taking 3 times as long as the ancients did with modern technology!
Well done Greece; reason to return visit! Working/sculpting marble can cause Silicosis, an Incurable lung disease. Thanasis, the sculptor needs to be wearing PPE, a filtration mask to prevent inhaling the Marble Dust. And, maybe one day the UK will return what is rightfully Grecian!
🇬🇷🇬🇷❤️, cradle of civilization and democracy, New Testament was written in Greek language.
