This documentary seems to have been well researched. I love the pristine presentation, the objectivity, with no sides taken, just the plain truth of the historical facts, the presentation and the narration. No annoying unnecessary background music, no trotting out of hundreds of experts, booksellers and historians. I watched it three times and will again. This is how a documentary should be done.
Fortunatly the program picks out a condensed history so one does not get bogged down in lots of minor aswell as the significant history. Very well made but we must remember that lots of other details to the history are to be considered eventually to understand many of other influences upn the History, Be Blessed, Z :hand-pink-waving::face-blue-smiling:
I'm going to be 70 next month, I remember Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and being told about Korea, there's also incursions in Carribean and central American countries, covert support for various African conflicts. Many years ago, I spent some time in Fayetteville North Carolina with fort Brag a city saturated by the military and learned that it is absolutely criminal, repeat criminal, the way the USA treats its veterans. I, for one, with a degree in Political Science and even a background in political activism, and damn sick of war!
Personally, I think Vietnam's history is probably the most intriguing in the world because it's unique and unusual. The Mongols according to historians are still regarded as the mightiest, deadliest and most feared military force of all time even though they existed more than 8 centuries ago. The Mongol army of roughly 150,000 troops was able to wipe out all the powerful Chinese dynasties and successfully conquered the entire China in the 13th century! With its unbeatable army, the mighty Mongol Empire peaked its power under the command of the legendary Mongol general and statesman Kublai Khan controlling roughly 28 million sq. km of territory from the Pacific Ocean to central Europe, which is 3 times as large as the land area of the present day China and almost double that of Great Russia. However, even the mighty Mongol Empire had been unable to conquer the teeny tiny Southeast Asian country known as the Kingdom of Dai Viet or modern day Vietnam! It's said looks can be deceiving. In the bloody Bach Dang River battle in 1288, the Vietnamese army led by the Vietnamese Prince Hung Dao triumphantly defeated the unbeatable Mongol army, twice its size and completely sank the entire fle
I salute the Vietnamese for their sheer tenacity in claiming their land from foreign territorial invasion or military aggression. I also have a new found respect for a Mr Ho Chi Minh for his sheer determination to unite the Vietnamese people as One Nation and succeeded in his life time in doing that.
