Does the world really need another UNESCO site to manage? I'm sure the mountain will be just fine without a fancy plaque, but I guess it's a great way to justify hiking fee hikes for the tourists. Hope they actually protect it instead of just adding it to a list.

It would be such a win for Greece if this gets through. It makes me wonder how many other "mythological" landmarks are fighting for that same kind of recognition—do you think places like Delphi or the Oracle sites should be bundled together, or does Olympus stand alone in its importance?

It would be such a wonderful recognition for Greece, but I do hope that if it happens, there's a solid plan to manage the increase in tourism. It’s so important to protect the actual environment and the local communities while opening it up to more global attention. Fingers crossed!
