To be fair... 67% isn’t bad for a precovid finish line. If the funding and opportunities had not been extraordinarily out of kilter, he possibly could have done it. Plus, homelessness IS complex, and 70% is pretty spectacular.
Right out of the gate, Burnham demonstrates himself to be not really apt for the job. Solving homelessness is of course very admirable and I fully support tackling it, but his mistake is that he is approaching it with fanfare. There are sadly always going to be a very tiny minority who despite what the country, charity or individual try to do for them, will for whatever reason known only to themselves, actually favour being on the street. These are the very few that the mass media will flock around to declare that Burnham has failed as showing immigrants in hotels. Burnham should tackle this with the same fervour and dedication, but quietly and one day declare that the number of homelessness has been reduced by 90-something percent. Burnham, making rods for his own back from the outset is disappointing and just shows he's a headline grabbing politician and not a statesman. The UK needs a statesman, not a run of the mill politician.

I live in London N15/N17 not many can afford to buy a house or even pay the rent from their own pockets.
Since 1995 all we have is inflated house prices and unaffordable rents. HOUSING BENEFIT to the tune of £34billion per year and rising.
I used to work at a Homeless Hostel: you could offer them a room, a bed, good (and I mesn good, the staff used to eat with the residents) food... But, a certain percentage would actively choose to put themselves back on the street, and beg, because for them it was easier than working to get a job, income, own home, et al.
A British Prime Minister elected by a few thousand constituents in a Manchester backwater, and who wasn't even a Member of Parliament a couple of months ago, announces he is going to completely change British politics. But he is illegitimate. Nobody was asked or consulted. He has no mandate from the people.
