A highly provocative gesture, though hardly surprising given the long-standing territorial dispute. It is worth noting that the islands' residents voted overwhelmingly to remain a British Overseas Territory in a 2013 referendum. This seems less like sportsmanship and more like a calculated political statement.

The bias is clear. If England players stood behind a banner saying The Falklands are British, if they had won last night, we'd be out of the tournament and the next one too. Argentina, as before, will get a small fine. A cheaty nation playing in a cheaty competition, run by cheats.
