wow, what an incredible documentary. I wanted to be a forensic expert when I was 20 years. but this level of expertice, technologhy, ethic, efficience is almost impossible in poor and corrupt countries. where hundreds of criminal acts are not solved. in countries like bolivia, traffic accidents occur every single day with terrible consequences. but the reasons are almos never explained. general reports. driving under influence of alcohol, most of them. thousands of wounded people.
Now that forensics is so good at solving crimes with dead victims, they should work on proving crimes where the victim didn’t die, like domestic violence. When victims live, judges and juries will find any reason not to believe their report. Predators get away with a LOT because of this, and having people disbelieve you and question everything you say adds trauma to trauma.
If Germany allowed personal DNA tests it would help solve crimes so much more easily by doing Genetic Geneology. I think Germany has taken the privacy protection especially in crime solving way too far. In violent crimes, the identity of the perpetrator should be lost as a way of keeping the public safer.
No doubt DNA has made advances in identifying suspects. We also seem to have video cameras everywhere. Hopefully, the politicians, judges, prosecutors and police chiefs can do better handling the results.
When I was younger I wanted to be a forensic expert, but then I've learned that I don't have the stomach for that. Hats down to those who can withstand the scene.
