A massive energy crisis is coming from Iran and the Gulf. What can the government do to protect us? Can you do anything to protect yourself? Gary unpacks the economic consequences of the war.
Because of your videos I've been able to talk with people I know with so much more information. Your message is a great one, the way you explain it is so simple but true. It's helped me greatly, and I appreciate what you've done. Thank you.
Its profoundly strange to me how they've managed to make wealth tax an extremely divisive issue within the working class. You'd think those less fortunate would understand the ramifications of all of this yet we remain divided on how to best help ourselves. Appreciate these videos, keep up the good work!
I commented on Gary's post regarding wealth inequality 2 years ago. I said I was going to listen to his advice and work hard and save the profits from my small business to eventually buy assets. I'm currently on track to buying my own commercial property to run my business from. I recently spoke to my bank's financial advisor, they're totally perplexed that I'm waiting to save enough money to buy a property (outright) and not get a business mortgage and doing it now. I didn't want to tell them that I'm sick of rich people making money off ordinary working people. I'm not far now from my goal, 2 more years to go.
Really appreciate you Gary, your efforts and honesty. Thank you for the work you’re doing to educate/inform others on these subjects. I can only imagine the challenges that your position creates, I’m grateful you continue this journey in the face of depression and those challenges. I often struggle to believe in a positive economic outcome for the majority, but totally agree that hope is a necessity for taking this path. Take care
Anyone working full-time understands the accuracy of what Gary is explaining. You are so tired all the time and have no money to show for it. Rent is 50% of your income nowadays, then it's food, transportation, insurance etc. etc. and there's nothing left. We need the assets back! I just want a home, a retirement, and something left over to enjoy my life a bit.
Electricity, water, gas, internet, healthcare, housing. Necessities for human life should not have a profit motive attached, ever. Tax wealth, not work. We're with you Gary.
What infuriates me (as an aussie) is my government telling us that fertilizer and diesel shortages will increase the cost of agriculture. They've asked farmers to try to absorb as much of the supply side cost increases as they can bear. They've asked consumers to expect higher prices and not to panic buy. What they haven's done is put in place temporary regulations targeting war profiteering, or asked the corporations who own the supermarkets posting multi-billion dollar profits to forgo some of those profits and do their part to absorb some of the expense. We're all expected to tighten our belts and pay more for less while corporations are entitled to keep raking in money hand over fist. Honestly the only thing that makes it bearable is knowing how mad people are going to get about it.
Here in Finland, where taxes are relatively high compared to rest of the world, one interesting “taxing” point targeting the rich, for UK to consider, is how a 100-year old law is applied such that people who speed are fined, based on a percentage escalated by grievance type that then considers the driver’s source income levels. Case in point, a multiple-businesses owner was fined €121,000 in 2023 for driving 70kmph in 50kmph zone, along with other fines in earlier years ranging between €50k and €105k.
Done, otherwise rich would exploit their status but interestingly also disregard safety and act recklessly, knowing they can easily get away with it and not feel any real pain.
