“There will be changing faces and that’s going to cause a lot of upset.” Andy Burnham has to appoint his cabinet tomorrow, and The Times's political editor Steven Swinford reveals who is in the runnin
Burnham is like something from the 1970s, probably a bad episode of “on the buses”, the inspector? “Blakey Burnham” catch phrase - “I’ll ave you Butler”…. 😊
We need a defence secretary who will reform the MoD. The MoD needs to be focused on defending the country , not paying off defence companies. The MoD needs to be far more agile
The Epstein Times can't help upsetting everyone at the moment. How Boulton is still in a job sums up what the establishment is all about. Self interests and a total and utter disregard for decency, respect and joe public.
I am not a Labour or a conservative supporter; however, I do think Andy Burnham should at least given a chance.
The two announcements that have been leaked today may give us a little hope.
He's opening up the North Sea for Oil exploration and cancelling digital ID is a reasonable start other announcements will be made during the course of next week along with who is going to be in his cabinet.
Let's have it right it can't be any worse than Starmer the people harmer.
I'm quite happy to wait and see, we the people can only hope for better days.
A.I. = Who is it for? It'll mean job losses for drivers and black cabs.
Same vibes as: steam powered looms in factories, who is it for? What about the weavers in their cottages.
Burnham can't deliver real change because he's tied to Labour, and Labour's high-tax, high-spend, high-welfare, high-iregulation approach doesn't create the conditions growth needs.
So, Steve thinks it's absolutely fine that a new PM is coming in, that hasn't faced an election in his own party, let alone having any kind of mandate from the electorate and is talking about constitutional change and electoral reform to make it nearly impossible for the left to be kicked out of power, changing the city government is run from, taxing different areas of the country at higher rates and intentionally taking us back to the horrors of the 1970s. Yeah Steve, this is all absolutely fine.
It always feels like a bit of a school playground when these cabinet appointments happen, doesn't it? All that shuffling around just to see who ends up in whose good books. I wonder if they ever actually get some sleep the night before, or if they're all just staring at the ceiling worrying about their titles. Hope he manages to keep the peace!

Burnham’s playing a risky game here. Shuffling the deck always leaves someone bitter, but if he wants to actually get things done in Greater Manchester, he can't afford a civil war in his own camp. Who’s the biggest casualty likely to be?

Good morning, everyone. Settling in with my tea and thinking about those "changing faces" Steven mentioned—it always feels a bit unsettling when the guard shifts in politics. Do you think these new appointments will actually bring the change we need, or just more of the same?
