Unity requires discipline, loyalty, trust, etc. In this perspective, when on April 18th, 2026, a member-state of ECOWAS has conceived on his own behalf a so-called 'Togo's strategy 2026-2028 for the Sahel', the internal cohesion of the organisation is defiled and unity is weakened. The Sahel indicates a part of the space within ECOWAS. But a country (which is a 60-year-old dynastic tyranny within ECOWAS) has gathered officials of Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, United Nations, the African Union, etc, to introduce them to its 2026-2028 strategy for the Sahel.

It’s easy for leaders to pledge unity in a summit room, but I really wonder how this actually translates to relief for the people on the ground. Those facing economic hardship can't eat promises. I hope they focus more on the citizens than the political power struggles.
