We can only be so different and when communicating online we need to flatten ourselves to be understood or be interesting enough to be ourselves and place the responsibility of understanding on others...But for the common person such a burden is poor practice and fairly antisocial.

Want people to be more unique? Meet in person, build community, openly show hate, openly like weird stuff, act in a manner others will be confused by, dislike, feel uncomfortable around, be yourself, that's what true culture is.

One way we could escape this trap is reading more books, the old ones probably, and keep meeting with other people; friends, relatives, siblings, parents. Specially old people, they are the last ones from a generation without the internet
I used to love Pandora music's, 'more variety' option. A good recommendation engine can also recognise if one likes this, they may like that, based on what thousands of other people with similar tastes have liked. That said, nothing beats personal exploration and accidental finds. Hidden gems. Start with curiosity and go from there.
great talk and i agree with quite a few things but instead of having ai choose for us why not ask a real person, or just wander into the unknown all alone? this way you may make some bad choices but atleast the choice will be yours
