What I personally missed in the film was the anti-"Don't Look Up" vibe that was present in the book.
The film doesn't explore the idea that there's a person who decides to take responsibility for unpopular decisions to save the planet, and that everyone agrees to cooperate - and they actually do.
i think when they used “launch window”, it was more about trying to get the Hail Mary going or they risk not making it in time. its more a ticking clock thing than an orbital alignment or slingshot maneuvers.
With the spinning and docking in the movie, it looks like the tunnel from the Blip-A is off center so I just assumed Rocky matched the off-center spin from his end.
what Andy said about the ship moving and the camera following is how I interpreted the movement but thats only because i've been building a video game based on ship combat from the Expanse. That idea of the cameraman moving was actually what made me laugh at that shot.
Loved this book and movie. No cynicism, no lectures or finger wagging, us vs them, no ax to grind. Just a good story about people coming together to solve a problem. So much media wants you to believe that you’re either a victim of soemthing or the victimizer to someone. We need more media that shows people being brought together.

12:00 if you actually observe carefully, the centre of rotation is actually exactly where Rocky observed the Mary to spin, he understood the motion and since his ship is much more advanced, he's able to manoeuvre for the Xenonite ship to spin in sync to the Mary. The tunnel is actually technically where gravity would be the most effective on the Mary since it's at the furthest point of the Mary's centre of rotation. You can see this clearer when Rocky's hamster ball boards the ship, the orientation of the ladder is exactly where the floor of the lab is.
AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE! I get my tshirt Saturday from Amazon! I’ve seen it twice and I’m going again this weekend. I’m 71 and I remember sitting in the theater and gripping my armrests as the Ewoks flew through the woods in Star Wars. Rocky is my new fave alien. I absolutely love this movie. As a grandma I had to share this movie with my grandkids Saturday. Then I went alone Sunday.
Andy Weir's explanation of the spacecraft manoeuvring sequences being the that camera syncs its motion to the ships after the initial acceleration was exactly what I thought when watching it. As for the speed of movement, I allowed for creative license in that they just sped up that footage.
I didn't want this review to end. One of the warmest characters ever written in the shape of a rock. If I was wearing a hat Andy Weir, I'd definitely take it off to you. Well done, truly.
Book Grace did have the training for EVA that any astronaut on their first mission would have had, because he was testing out equipment for them to use on spacewalks in the zero-g simulation pools.
15:50 - Good mindset. when I watched it, the whole audience was laughing when the the ships did that little dance. Tells you a lot about a movie when it can make you laugh about something as dry as two space ships aligning their positions.
It's amazing that Andy Weir even got so much input on this film, that's VERY unusual, considering most book adaptations they actively ignore the original author, but with The Martian and Project Hail Mary, they went out of their way to include him.
